Pleasing Notes: Rootho Naa
When ever you hear about two young people in love, an involuntary smile slowly sprawls on your lips. So, it is not weird when this lazy smile finds its cozy spot when you are watching a love flick. For example, you are watching Qayamat se Qayamat Tak, or Bobby or Ek Duje Ke Liye …what happens? Hope you are getting my drift. Well, it has been really long since someone attempted to make something akin to these great romances.
One such attempt was made by Hemant Hegde- the director of the film Khanna and Iyer. Sadly though, we can’t say that he made it to that coveted circle of classic love tales. The movie, quite obviously, is about two people in love. Both originate from different parts of India-the boy Aryan (Sarvar Ahuja) is a Punjabi and the girl Nandini (Aditi Sharma) is a South Indian. Understandably, their families do not see eye to eye and vehemently refuse to consider the marriage. So the defiant lovers run away and choose to hide in a jungle. By some freak of fate, they gain possession of a CD which has very important information of a politician and a gangster. So now, the two are chased by the police, their parents, the gangsters and the politician. Whew!
The story is quite hay wired and probably that is the main cause of the failure of the film. Though the film bombed really badly, the music is above average and the best track on the film is “Rootho na…” – a cute song which shows off a light banter between the two lovers. It’s a typical love song and makes you chuckle at their young love.
The music created by Tabun Sutradhar in this number is easy and light - just right. It is soothing and nice to listen to. Besides, it suits the mood to perfection. Later in the song, to go with the theme of the film, he has South Indian instruments and Punjabi instruments played-as mentioned before, cute.
The lyrics by Rajesh Johri captures the mild flirtatious mood of the song. It is interlaced with English phrases too - this brings a contemporary aspect to the song. The track reminds you of “Akele hain toh kya gham hai…” from QSQT. They talk about their dreams, promises and basically the world seen through their rose tinted glasses. It makes you feel better about life.
The singers-Kunal Ganjawala and Shreya Ghoshal do a fine job with the vocals of the two sweethearts. His voice seems perfect for the young handsome Punjabi boy and Shreya’s sweet, innocent voice lends a very special quality to the song. Very well sung - you can sense the great comfort level and easy chemistry between the two.
The two debutantes in the movie have got an awesome chance that very few get. Though the film did not do too well, these two did get noticed. They seem very suitable for the characters of the film and seem nubile and naïve enough.
Overall, don’t know about the film, but the song makes you listen and tap your feet.

Jaane do na, from cheeni kum, is my favorite song, she’s sung it very well, Well after a long while, there’s a singer born, who I really like listening to.

Shreya Goshal is the best singer, man!
I want her to be in the top forever!
She sings fantastic…and her voice in MUNBE VAA from Tamil was absolutely superb!
You know the raagam that just goes onnnnnnn in that song…at the end..that was superb!
And, when you sang that song in the stage on filmfare south……it was glowing my mind…….you made everbody silent……man, i wish i have your voice!
Good luck for your future…I don’t even need to say this, because you are going to have a bright future!
